Ladies

Romanby Ladies’ section is a friendly and active group which welcomes new members of all ages and abilities. Ladies’ competition day is Thursday but groups of ladies regularly go out on other days and would welcome new ladies wishing to join them.

During the Summer there are trophy and medal competitions for ladies with handicap indices below 45.1 and friendly and relaxed competitions for ladies with higher handicaps. There are also 9 hole qualifying competitions for ladies with high handicaps and anyone else who finds playing 18 holes too much. During the Winter ladies of all handicaps are drawn to play together in friendly competitions.

There are also regular tee times booked on Saturday mornings for ladies unable to play on Thursdays. The draw system ensures that you will always have playing partners. If you are new to golf and would like help with your handicap, rules, scoring, etiquette, or anything else please contact the Competition Secretary who will advise you and introduce you to other lady members.

Ladies golf break

Romanby Ladies have been enjoying a short spring break since 2004 until the Covid pandemic. A one night break is planned for April 2022.

Captain’s Away Day

The Lady Captain’s Away Day takes place in July. The Lady Captain chooses a venue within reasonable travelling distance and the ladies have a fun game of golf and enjoy a meal afterwards.

Matches & Competitions

Yorkshire Ladies’ County Golf Association

During the Summer there are team matches organised through the YLCGA. We have a B team (handicap index 18.5 to 36.4) and a White Rose team  handicap index up to 36.4). Each team playing home and away matches against three clubs in each league.

For the first time since 2005 Romanby Ladies will have a Weekend League team for ladies with a handicap index of up to 36.4. It is primarily for ladies who are unable to play Monday-Friday.

Friendly matches

Friendly matches are also played over the summer with up to six home and away matches with clubs chosen by the Lady Captain. These matches give members a good opportunity to play other courses, meet new people and introduce beginners to match play, as well as being very enjoyable.

Winter League

Winter League is played from October to March on the first Monday of the month unless course or weather conditions cause postponement, and it is played on the second Monday. All twelve clubs in the Harrogate Union take part.

Dales Alliance

Dales Alliance matches are also played from October to March on Saturdays or Sundays and are primarily for ladies who are unable to play on weekdays. Six matches are played with teams from Bedale, Thirsk and Northallerton, Catterick, Richmond and Ripon.

Teesside Lady Golfers’ Alliance

The Teesside Lady Golfers’ Alliance membership (handicap index up to 34.0) gives Romanby Ladies the opportunity to take part in a variety of competitions held at clubs around Teesside and in County Durham and to play different courses at a very reasonable cost.

Yorkshire Veteran Ladies’ Golf Association

The Yorkshire Veteran Ladies’ Golf Association gives yet more opportunities for those over 50 and with a handicap index of up to 35.0 to go and play in competitions at other courses.

Mixed competitions

Mixed Competitions also take place throughout the golf season so look for the dates in the Club Diary and watch out for details on the main notice board.

Christmas lunch and Ladies’ Dinner

Christmas lunch takes place on a Thursday in December. We play nine holes of fun golf and then enjoy a two-course lunch together and exchange Secret Santa gifts.

The golfing year ends with the Ladies’ Dinner which is usually held in January or February.
