If you're looking for more than just a first class golf course, the
area surrounding Romanby is certain to stimulate your imagination.
Only a few minutes drive away is the picturesque market town of
Northallerton, with an impressive array of traditional
hostelries, tempting restaurants and stylish shops.
Just a little further afield, the non-golfing visitor will find much to see and do. Northallerton is
part of Hambleton District, better known as Herriot Country as it is the setting
for the world famous James Herriot stories written by local vet Alf
Wight. Wight's home town of Thirsk, just eight miles from
Northallerton, was the inspiration for the fictional town of Darrowby and features the popular visitor attraction 'The World of James
Herriot'. |

Attractions in and around Herriot Country include the ancient market
towns of Bedale, Easingwold, Stokesley and Great Ayton, plus
picturesque villages and numerous historic houses, castles and abbeys.
There are steam railways, spectacular caves and a host of facilities
for outdoor pursuits. The area is a paradise for walkers and cyclists
and you can enjoy horse-racing at Thirsk and a variety of agricultural
shows, flower festivals and galas throughout the summer months.
To the east is Captain Cook Country, offering the beauty of the The North York Moors
and a breathtaking coastline. To the west lie the delights of the
Yorkshire Dales National Park. The historic city of York is
just 39 miles south of Northallerton, while the world famous shopping
facilities of the Gateshead Metro Centre and Newcastle-upon-Tyne are an hour's drive
away to the north. These are just a few of the many choices open to
visitors to Romanby Golf and Country Club.
